About Our Gourds

The Gourdgeous Creations began with a love for crafting and a big heart for not wasting what nature gives us.  When we first visited a gourd farm in Central Pennsylvania, we felt how special it was and knew right away we wanted to be a part of it.  Let’s start with their story; it all began with one farmer and the seeds from two gourds he found by accident. 

On a trip to New England, that farmer saw fresh gooseneck gourds for the first time. He brought them home, grew and sold them alongside pumpkins. People loved them!
Soon, many farmers were growing gourds too.  Unfortunately, then the gourds that were once so special now lay in the fields unharvested. But then something unexpected happened. Most crops normally would rot if left on the ground all winter. However, the gooseneck gourds were the exception. Their wood-like shells dried and left him with beautiful shapes to create on.

With a background in carpentry, the farmer picked up his tools and started creating; bells, tiny birdhouses and snowmen. That winter changed everything when gourd crafting began. Today, these gourds are shared all over the world.

We’re proud to bring this story — and these gourds — to Western Pennsylvania.
